Texas State 4-H Horse Show

In July, Gus and I competed at the State Horse Show from the 20th through the 27th. I could not be any happier to have Gus in my life, he is truly special and a one of a kind. Gus and I showed in Showmanship where we ended up placing 7th, I could not have been any more pleased as I have never been in the top ten at state before in the showmanship. Gus performed so well for me and he was always right there with me, his turns were really good and he set up for me easily. We also showed in halter geldings, however due to Gus's weight we did not place. We also got into the trail finals with the highest score of 36.5 in the class, I was so excited and ready to take on the finals with him. Through our trail finals pattern, Gus and I had to go through a real gate, this was a very hard obstacle to take on since i had never done it with him before. Gus was almost flawless through each obstacle, he did not hit any logs and listened to me every step of the way. Gus and I were named the Western Trail Champions, I could not believe we were the last ones in the ring, it was truly unbelievable and i will never forget that moment. Gus and I also showed in the western pleasure where we ended up 8th, and then were finalists in the western horsemanship (due to rider error). We also showed in the english division. In hunt seat versatility we placed 6th, hunter showmanship 6th, hunt seat equitation 9th, and in hunter under saddle we placed 5th. Gus gave me his all in the hunter under saddle and I believe he should have won the class. It was our best ride we have ever had in the hunter under saddle. Gus really made this trip to the state horse show one to remember!
